A teapot that is not only for brewing tea, but an ink-wash painting carved onto ceramic. In the hands of Artisan Truong Tan Hoa, the gentle Ban Nguyet (half-moon) shape takes on character and inner strength through bold, free-flowing carved lines.
Style: Unlike traditional realistic painting, the motif on this teapot is rendered in a stylised, abstract manner. Soft curves combined with striped carved panels (resembling the veining of stone) evoke ranges of mountains appearing and disappearing among wind and cloud.
Colour: The carved motif exposes the bright golden clay body, contrasting strongly with the dark brown outer surface (the liver-red / antique bronze tone) characteristic of Nixing ware, for a striking and thoroughly modern visual effect.
Design: A flattened body with a broad base, like a crescent moon lying on its side. This shape lets the leaves sink quickly and release their aroma horizontally, which flatters the fragrance of the tea.
Handling: The wide arched handle is comfortable and secure in the hand, making an elegant pour easy.
Capacity 130ml: A little larger than the 110ml line, this size is extremely versatile.
Just right for drinking alone
Benefit: A small teapot keeps the tea piping hot and gives the brewer control over temperature and steeping time, drawing out everything fine teas such as old-tree white tea or pu-erh have to offer.
Nixing ceramic: The more it is used, the glossier the body becomes, its colour shifting over the years.
14-hole filter: Small as it is, the pot still comes with a 14-hole honeycomb filter.
Effect: It keeps the flow fast, strong and completely free. The tea pours out in a clean, rounded stream.
