Qin Quan is a teapot shape inspired by the weight of a balance scale from the Qin dynasty, a symbol of authority, fairness and standards. Combined with the character of bamboo and the philosophy of "Hou De", the pot becomes a feng shui piece that reminds its owner of integrity and virtue.
A balance between natural beauty and philosophical depth:
Front – bamboo branch: The artisan carves slender bamboo shoots with sharp, finely cut leaves rising vigorously. Bamboo is the emblem of the gentleman: it stands straight through wind and rain, and its hollow core holds the Way — a symbol of resilience and peace ("bamboo brings peace").
Back – calligraphy: Four gilded characters, "Hou De Zai Wu" (厚德载物).
Meaning: "Great virtue upholds all things". The ancients held that only someone who has accumulated enough virtue and lives with generosity and breadth of spirit can shoulder great responsibility and hold on to fortune for long.
Form: A tall cylindrical body, gently sloping shoulders, a short neck and a snug lid. The shape radiates solidity and steadiness — unfussy, yet full of character.
Handling: A broad ear-shaped (or half-moon) handle makes the pot sit firmly and securely in the hand while pouring.
180ml capacity: The "golden" size for solitary drinking (drinking alone in contemplation) or drinking in pairs (with a close friend).
Advantage: The tall Qin Quan body concentrates the aroma beautifully. The fragrance rises vertically and gathers under the lid, letting the drinker perceive it at its clearest.
Fully handmade: The piece is meticulously crafted by artisan Zhu Yongkao, with crisp, flowing lines.
14-hole filter (upgraded): The 14-hole filter system makes the stream pour fast, strong and freely, fully overcoming the clogging that tall teapots are prone to.
Performance:
Clean cut-off: The short spout characteristic of Qin Quan gives a short, forceful stream that cuts off cleanly.
Snug lid: A perfect seal that holds in heat and the flavour of the tea.
Given the tall body and its aroma-concentrating ability:
Oolong (high-mountain, Tie Guan Yin): Brings out clean, pure floral notes.
Red tea (black tea): Retains heat well, drawing out the tea's sweetness.
Pu-erh: The cylindrical body gives the leaves room to "breathe" and open up.
