2. Meaning of the motif & highlights

  • Meaning of the bird-and-flower motif: The flowers and birds carved by hand in fine detail on the body stand for the vitality of spring, fertility, peace and refinement. In East Asian culture the image of flowers and birds has always been tied to harmony with nature, bringing a calm, auspicious energy to the tea table.

  • Qinzhou Nixing clay: The body blends loam from the west bank with mineral silt from the east bank of the Qinjiang River, fired at high temperature for a ceramic as dense as jade that rings like a bell, well breathing, deeply heat-retaining, and growing smoother and more lustrous the longer it is cared for.

  • Tall Shipiao shape: A reworking with a tall, graceful body, a straight spout that pours strongly, a balanced handle that sits easily in the hand, and a tight lid that keeps in the heat and the aroma.

  • 14-hole filter: The honeycomb holes are round and even, draining fast, gathering the stream precisely and cutting it off cleanly without clogging with leaf.

3. Which teas it suits & how to use it

  • Teas this pot brews best:

    • The Nixing body holds heat very well and conducts it steadily, and 110ml is an ideal capacity for drawing out the deep layers of aroma and the sweet finish of fine teas.

    • Best with: pu'er tea (raw and ripe pu'er), green tea, oolong (high-mountain oolong, Tie Guan Yin) and aged white tea.

  • Breaking it in: Rinse clean with warm water, simmer gently together with the tea you mean to use for 15 – 20 minutes, then let it cool naturally.

  • Caring for it: After use, rinse inside and out with clean boiling water only, dry with a soft cloth, and never use detergent.
