If you are looking for a piece of tea ware that combines graceful, aristocratic beauty with the rustic, quietly powerful character of ancient pottery clay, the Hoa Dĩnh Teapot with Carved Peony is the perfect answer. The union of the flowing Hoa Dĩnh silhouette, the mineral-rich Nixing clay of Qinzhou and the gifted hands of Artisan Hồ Đông Lệ has produced a genuine work of art at Việt Long Trà.
Teapot shape: Hoa Dĩnh (an elegant, airy shape in a nature-inspired style, with soft lines like flower petals that give it a light, refined feel).
Clay: Nixing ceramic from Qinzhou (Nixing pottery) – one of China's celebrated "Four Great Potteries".
Maker: Artisan Hồ Đông Lệ (handmade, with a crisp seal stamped under the base).
Motif: Peony (finely and vividly incised into the body of the pot).
Capacity: 170ml (a well-judged size, suited to drinking alone, with one companion, or in a small group of 2–3).
Filter: 14 holes (meticulously drilled by hand for a free-flowing pour with no risk of clogging).
The Hoa Dĩnh shape, with its soft, feminine curves, is poetic in itself. When Artisan Hồ Đông Lệ adds the peony motif, the piece is lifted to another level altogether.
Every incised line and accent, cut with real mastery, brings to life peony petals opening in proud full bloom. In East Asian culture the peony is a symbol of nobility, prosperity, wealth and complete beauty. Having this teapot on your tea table not only shows refined taste but also carries auspicious feng shui meaning, drawing in fortune and prosperity.
Made from the distinctively fine clay of the Thao Giang region (Guangxi) and fired unglazed at over $1000^\circ\text{C}$, the Nixing teapot from Qinzhou offers outstanding qualities:
Superb heat retention and aroma holding: Its double-pore structure preserves the tea's original flavour and fragrance in full. This 170ml pot is exceptionally well suited to brewing premium teas such as raw/ripe pu-erh, oolong and Tieguanyin, or Shan Tuyết ancient-tree teas.
The rewarding practice of "raising" a teapot: Over time the mineral clay absorbs the oils of the tea and takes on a glossy, deepening patina, turning a warm, mellow colour as smooth as jade.
A capacity of 170ml is the "golden" size sought after by many tea drinkers, because it makes steeping time easy to control and keeps the liquor from turning harsh or stewed.
The 14-hole filter is evenly set inside the spout, giving a round, strong stream, a clean cut-off at the end of the pour, and complete retention of the leaves inside the pot.
Seasoning: Before first use, rinse away the clay dust with warm water. Then simmer the pot gently in a saucepan together with a little of the tea you intend to brew for about 10–15 minutes, to awaken the minerals in the clay.
Care: After each tea session, empty out the spent leaves and rinse the pot with boiling water. Wipe the whole body gently with a soft cloth while the pot is still warm, so it develops its glossy patina faster. Never use chemical detergents.
