MAI THUNG ZINI TEAPOT – THE CONTOURS OF A CLASSIC MASTERPIECE
The Mai Thung (plum stump) teapot is one of the classic forms of zisha art, inspired by the root of an old plum tree with its natural, powerful yet deeply poetic lines. The piece symbolises resilience in the face of adversity, nobility of character and a beauty that endures through the years.
Key features
The Mai Thung form: The shape evokes the stump of an ancient plum tree, the body carrying natural gnarled grain like the bark of an old tree. Spout, handle and lid are designed in harmony, giving the piece the vitality of a miniature sculpture. It is a form loved by many tea drinkers for its associations with longevity, vigorous life force and the spirit of the noble scholar.
Unblended zini ore clay: Zini is a celebrated zisha clay renowned for outstanding heat retention and aroma retention. The clay is dense and fine, rich in minerals, helping the tea express its flavour and aroma more fully. With long use, the surface of the pot gradually develops a soft, warm natural patina like jade.
Crafted by artisan Vương Chí Thành: Every detail on the body of the pot is executed by hand with meticulous care. The lines imitating the bark of an old plum tree carry the mark of time – strong and sinewy, yet supple and flowing. The balance between spout, handle and body creates a harmonious whole of great artistry.
