This Phan Hồ teapot carries a powerful Zen message right on its body. One side of the pot depicts a Sage in ancient robes sitting at ease in quiet meditation, evoking the feeling of letting go of every worry to become one with nature. The opposite side is hand-carved with four large characters, "Cảnh Do Tâm Tạo" (境由心造) – a profound philosophy reminding the tea drinker that whether the surrounding world is beautiful or ugly, serene or stormy, it all springs from one's own state of mind. The teapot is therefore not merely a tea vessel, but a spiritual anchor on the tea table.
Made from the unadorned zini clay of Yixing, this teapot has a naturally warm, deep brown tone. Zini is the ideal clay sought after by tea lovers thanks to its distinctive double-pore structure:
Steady heat retention and aroma preservation: it optimises the water temperature during brewing so the tea is never stewed or overpowering, keeping the original flavour and aroma of the leaf intact.
Mellowing the taste of the tea: the minerals in zini interact with water in a unique way, softening the harsh, rough edge of the tea and yielding cups that are smooth, round and finished with a deep, sweet aftertaste. The more often this clay is nourished with tea, the more it develops a soft, glossy patina and a radiant lustre.
Beyond its beauty and its philosophy, this 160ml Phan Hồ teapot is perfectly optimised in function to enhance the brewer's experience:
Ball filter (hemisphere) design: with many small filter holes arranged in a dome that bulges into the body of the pot, the water outlet area is maximised. Tea friends can brew small-leaf or broken-leaf teas with complete confidence, without worrying about spent leaves clogging the spout.
A powerful pour: the meticulous calculation of the curve of the spout, the tightness of the lid and the thick, round ring handle together produce a round, powerful stream that cuts off cleanly and moves with great fluency in the hand.
