One of the most classic and artistically rich teapot shapes in the world of zisha, modelled on a length of old tree root bursting into bud and new shoots.
Features: The body is full and round, solid and steady. The spout, handle and lid knob are finely worked into the form of an aged plum branch (or peach branch), gnarled and knotted yet full of life. The body is usually decorated with lively relief work of flowers and young buds.
Meaning: It stands for new beginnings, growth and abundance, and a wish for good fortune and overflowing luck.
A classic zisha clay of a deep purple-brown tone — quiet, antique-looking and beautifully lustrous.
Properties: Rich in minerals and highly breathable, which "seasons" the pot quickly and gives the tea a deeper, fuller flavour.
The clay surface is fine, with tiny mineral grains glinting through it; the longer the pot is used, the more it takes on a smooth, glossy chicken-liver patina, very pleasing to the eye.
This is the ideal capacity for group tea drinking (5 to 8 people).
Well suited to receiving guests in the family living room, the office, or at larger tea gatherings.
The piece is shaped painstakingly by hand, with the relief details on the body worked over by the artisan stroke by stroke, producing a piece of real artistic depth.
Spout and handle are joined harmoniously to the body, so the pot looks of a piece from every angle.
Nine filter holes, drilled round and evenly spaced, inside the spout.
Function: The water flows out strongly, in a round and smooth stream. This filter holds back the leaves effectively, keeping the pour smooth and clog-free even at this larger capacity.
Fit of the lid: The lid is ground by hand to a tight fit, which holds the heat excellently and keeps the full, fragrant aroma of the tea inside.
Grip: Large as it is, the handle is ergonomically designed and sturdy, so the pot sits firmly in the hand and pours easily.
Cut-off: The spout is precisely made and cuts the flow off cleanly, without dripping or spilling onto the tea table.
