1. Teapot shape: Yuanzhu
Features: The body is built from two flattened hemispheres joined together, leaving a raised ridge that runs around the middle of the pot (the waist line). This shape demands extremely precise symmetry in the forming to keep it balanced and pleasing to the eye.
Style: It carries the beauty of joining and harmony (hé) and the fullness of a pearl (zhū). This is the shape that stands for solidity, completeness and a hint of classical court taste.
2. Motif: archaistic Taotie
Description: The body is carved in relief with the Taotie mythical beast – the motif of authority on the bronze ritual vessels of the Shang - Zhou period.
Meaning: It stands for strength, protection and the warding off of evil. The stately Yilizhu shape together with the Taotie motif makes a tea-ceremony piece of real gravity.
