The body is a neat square block with crisp edges. Potters have a saying, "First the square, then the round" — meaning a square teapot is far harder to make than a round one, because the clay warps easily after firing and the edges go out of true.
The spout and handle are shaped like a jointed bamboo branch, a symbol of the noble character of a gentleman.
The lid knob is a squirrel (or auspicious beast) resting on the lid, a lively focal point (this pairing is usually called the Squirrel and Bamboo set).
