Long Đán is one of the most classic teapot shapes in the art of zisha, modelled on the form of a dragon egg. With smooth, unbroken lines running from the lid down through the body, the pot radiates the beauty of beginnings, of growth and of fulfilment.
Design: An upright oval body, softly tapered and rounded. Its defining feature is the lid, usually made in the "trảm tiệt" (cut-across) style or as a recessed lid, giving the impression of a perfectly seamless whole with the body. The knob is a rounded pearl, like a jewel set atop the dragon egg.
Meaning: In East Asian culture, the "Dragon Egg" stands for noble origins, fertility and abundant fortune.
Ornament: On the smooth reddish-brown zisha clay, the artisan has incised flowing lines of Chinese calligraphy.
Beauty: The graceful, decisive strokes are more than decoration — they breathe a literary spirit into the tea cup, turning tea drinking into a refined pleasure with the cadence of poetry.
Advantages: Zisha clay has an exceptional porosity and breathability (a closed-pore structure).
Heat retention: Holds heat for a long time.
Aroma retention: With long use the pot accumulates the aroma of the tea, and the liquor it brews grows sweeter and smoother over time.
Colour: A warm reddish brown (zhuni) that develops a beautiful patina the more it is used.
240ml capacity: A mid-range size that sits comfortably in the hand, perfectly suited to 2-4 people taking tea together.
9-hole filter (jiukong): Fitted with a traditional 9-hole filter screen.
Effect: Ensures a smooth, even pour and holds back the leaves effectively. This is the "original" style of filter, which keeps the tea's natural flavour fully intact.
Handling: A short spout angled upwards gives a strong stream and a clean cut-off. The lid seats tightly and holds heat perfectly.
