The clay used for Bizen pottery is highly distinctive, with a very high content of organic matter and iron; to fire pottery from this clay, the traditional Bizen kiln is built to a very special design, and the firing itself lasts 20 - 30 days, with kiln temperatures reaching up to 1200℃
