Bird-Shaped Lid Knob: Instead of the usual round knob, the artisan has hand-sculpted a little bird perched on top of the lid. This detail is not only a convenient grip (easy to hold, never slippery) but also breathes life into the piece, evoking a tranquil scene of "singing birds and smiling flowers".
Relief Motif: The body of the bowl is shaped with raised ribs running all around it, like lotus petals embracing the vessel. As a whole, the gaiwan looks like a green lotus in bloom, with that bird perched on the seed pod.
Colour: Coated in a pale jade-green glaze (Celadon). The glaze is crystal clear and gentle on the eye, giving an impression of coolness and immaculate cleanliness.
Feel: The glazed surface is cool and smooth to the touch, like touching jade.
