Among tea drinkers, the gaiwan is known as the "universal vessel" (the all-purpose brewing tool). This hand-painted porcelain gaiwan is not merely a piece of tea ware, but a work of handcrafted art that brings out the fragrance and colour of the tea.
100% hand-painted: The most valuable feature of this gaiwan is that the motif is not a printed decal but is painted entirely by hand by an artisan.
Details: Against the cool, soft pale jade-green glaze (sky-blue tone), a pink lotus flower blooms amid drifting petals, creating an exceptionally vivid and soulful impression. The brushwork is soft and graceful, imbued with East Asian character.
Capacity 150ml: This is the "golden" size for a gaiwan.
Serving: Perfectly suited to a tea table of 3-4 people. Just enough water for the leaves to open evenly and give up their full flavour in a single pour.
Why is the gaiwan said to brew every kind of tea?
Neutral: The porcelain body is finished with a glossy glaze that holds no odours and retains no trace of previous infusions. You can therefore use this gaiwan to brew green tea (Thái Nguyên), oolong (as pictured), white tea or pu-erh equally well, with no mingling of aromas.
Heat control: The wide rim lets heat escape quickly (good for green and young teas), while the movable lid makes it easy to draw in the aroma and to regulate the flow, fast or slow, at will.
Handling: The flared rim lets you hold and pour without burning your fingers.
