At the tea table, if the teapot is the "father" and the cups are the "children", then the fairness pitcher (tea pitcher) is the "arbiter", making sure every pour is even in taste, with strength and delicacy in harmony.
We are pleased to present the handmade Nixing Ceramic Fairness Pitcher from Qinzhou.
Unlike mass-produced moulded ware, every one of these pitchers is made entirely by hand by skilled artisans:
A pattern all its own: Each pitcher carries a different, meticulously carved motif. One bears an elegant spray of orchid, another a landscape of mountains and water, another a sweep of flowing calligraphy. What you own is a piece with no duplicate anywhere.
The lines: The lip is skilfully shaped so the stream runs smooth as silk and cuts off cleanly, without dripping onto the table.
The value of Nixing ware (one of the four great ceramic traditions) lies in how it changes over time:
Raising a patina: Nixing clay absorbs and takes on colour over time. Use it regularly and, before long, the bare clay surface turns glossy and jade-like in its lustre – the longer you look, the more it draws you in.
Better-tasting liquor: The breathable clay softens the water and brings the tea down to drinking temperature faster than a porcelain pitcher would, while keeping the flavour and aroma of the tea fully intact.
At 340ml, this is a generously sized pitcher and a very practical one.
It suits holding the full pour from a large teapot, or combining 2-3 infusions from a small one, so that when you serve your guests every cup is identical in colour and taste, with none stronger than another.
