HEISHA CLAY TEA PITCHER "INSCRIPTION ON A HUMBLE DWELLING" - HANDMADE TEA PITCHER

HEISHA CLAY PITCHER "LOU SHI MING" – MYSTERIOUS BEAUTY & SPECIAL FUNCTION

We usually use a glass pitcher to admire the colour of the liquor, but for seasoned enthusiasts a zisha pitcher offers a completely different experience of flavour and beauty.

1. Motif & Meaning: "Lou Shi Ming"

  • A classic inscription: The body of the pitcher is carved with "Lou Shi Ming" (Inscription on a Humble Dwelling) by Liu Yuxi.

    • Opening line: "Shan bu zai gao, you xian ze ming" (A mountain need not be high; if an immortal dwells there, it will be famous).

    • Meaning: It praises the virtue of the noble person. Even in a humble house, high moral character carries a good name far. Using this pitcher expresses the owner's refined bearing and their regard for honour and friendship above material things.

  • Heisha clay - Black, yet never dull: it has a sheen with a metallic gleam that gives an impression of great strength and antiquity.

2. USES: WHY CHOOSE A ZISHA PITCHER?

Many customers ask: "A glass pitcher is cheap and clear, so why pay for an expensive zisha one?". Here is the answer:

  • It "softens" the water: This is the greatest benefit. Zisha clay contains minerals that neutralise the water and take the edge off it. When the tea is poured from the teapot into a zisha pitcher, the liquor becomes sweeter, mellower and less harshly astringent than when poured into inert glass.

  • Better heat retention: The thick walls of a zisha pitcher keep the temperature of the tea steady. When it is poured into the cups the tea is still piping hot and its aroma opens up (whereas a thin glass pitcher usually lets the tea go cold very quickly in winter).

  • Seasoning the pitcher: Just like a zisha teapot, a pitcher used over a long time is "nourished" by the tea. It grows ever glossier, richer in colour and more deeply steeped in the breath of the tea.

  • A matching set: If you already use a zisha or heisha teapot, pairing it with a heisha pitcher makes for a tea set that looks far more refined and professional.

3. Specifications

  • Material: Heisha clay

  • Form: A tall pitcher; the pouring lip (spout) is slightly waisted so the stream cuts off cleanly without dripping. The handle is gently curved and insulates well.
